Collegiate A Capella Groups
April 14, 2008 by lizagator
Did you go to college on the East Coast? No? Did you know the phenomenon that was the a capella group? No? Not familiar…Take a look…
Depending on your level of punny-ness this could equally be called “The Best A Capella Group Names” or simultaneously, “The Worst A Capella Group Names.”
- University of Pennsylvania - The Penny Loafers
- University of North Carolina - Clef Hangers
- Michigan State University’s all male - Accafellas
- Brandeis University (assumingly all male) - Voicemale
- Johns Hopkins - Mental Notes
- Penn - Chord on Blue
- Duke - DejaBlue
- Cornell and Oberlin both have - Nothing But Treble
- University of Connecticut - Chordials
- MIT - Chorallaries
- UC Berkeley - DaCadence
- CalTech - Fluid Dynamics
- University of Michigan - Compulsive Lyres
- Cornell - Key Elements
- York University - Wibijazz’n
- UC Berkeley - Artists in Resonance
- Emory University -Aural Pleasure
Would also like to mention that Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) on The Office claims to have been a member of Cornell’s Here Comes Treble, while Stephen Colbert’s website of his fake history (I would have remembered him if he had actually been an anchor in Raleigh, NC) claims he was a member of the a capella group Sing Dynasty. (Perhaps the greatest name yet!).
If you need a fix, here’s an ELO medley from Tufts’ Beezlebubs
Got any better suggestions for future groups?
At University at Buffalo, the girls group is called ‘The Royal Pitches’
Go Bears! Go AiR! ha ha…
Acappellicans.
I went to school on the East Coast, how did I miss out? I really thought those things were just a tv joke - not real. Clearly I needed to spend more time on campus (or anytime - probably would have helped my class attendence)
Cornell seems to have 2 in that list. I wonder if they have A Capella turf wars.
They will “A-weem-a-whep” your ass off. For Shizzle.
